GREEN RIO PARTICIPATED IN THE SEMINAR “HOW CAN GERMANY AND BRAZIL TRANSFORM FOOD SYSTEMS?” HELD IN BERLIN. MINISTER CARLOS FÁVARO CLOSED WITH A FOCUS ON FOOD SAFETY.

From January 18 to 21, 2023, the 15th edition of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture was held in Berlin, which brought together 70 Ministers of Agriculture from different countries, including Minister Carlos Fávaro.

On January 20, the Embassy of Brazil in Berlin promoted the seminar “HOW BRAZIL AND GERMANY CAN TRANSFORM FOOD SYSTEMS?”, a side event of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture 2023.

In this seminar, moderated by Eduardo Sampaio, agricultural attaché of Brazil in Germany, the coordinator of Green Rio, Maria Beatriz Bley Costa, made a presentation highlighting the actions promoted in editions of the German-Brazilian Bioeconomy Workshop, which take place annually at Green Rio since 2017.

Maria Beatriz presented the timeline of these bilateral workshops, noting that the first joint bioeconomy call between the two countries took place in the context of the German-Brazilian Bioeconomy Workshop. In addition to presenting the projects selected in this call, Maria Beatriz also highlighted the ArticulaFito/Fiocruz partnership with the Julius Kühn Institut, which combines traditional knowledge with innovation and technology.

Blue Economy was the topic addressed by the CEO of ColossalFish, Burkhard Hormann, who highlighted the importance of fishing and aquaculture for food security.

Minister Carlos Fávaro closed the seminar at the Brazilian Embassy in Berlin and pointed out the importance of agricultural trade to bring prosperity to the sector and to promote innovation and sustainable development. “Food security is a goal that cannot be limited to national borders. By doing this, countries condemn their consumers to buy more expensive products. The lack of competition also means that innovation does not occur at the desirable speed”, said the minister.

The main objective of the seminar was to show the audience the strategies of the two countries to ensure the expansion of the food supply, without compromising the commitment to sustainability and social inclusion.

At the end of the seminar, a reception was offered to those present and Maria Beatriz invited Minister Fávaro to participate in the opening of Green Rio, on August 31, 2023, at Marina da Glória in Rio de Janeiro.
